With his first leading part in a feature film, Abel Tesfaye, better known onstage as The Weeknd, is solidifying his status as a multi-hyphenate in Hollywood. The “Save Your Tears” singer will make his film debut as a starring actor, producer, writer, and director in a forthcoming movie, his representative confirmed to POPSUGAR on February 28. Jenna Ortega from “Wednesday” and Barry Keoghan from “The Banshees of Inisherin” will both appear in the unnamed production.
Reza Fahim, Tesfaye’s producing partner, will co-produce and co-write the project, the press announcement states. Harrison Kreiss and Kevin Turen of “Euphoria” are two other producers. Trey Edward Shults, a writer and director, Chayse Irvin, a director of photography with a stellar reputation, and composer and producer Daniel.
News of the upcoming movie comes ahead of the series premiere of The Weeknd’s show “The Idol.” The mysterious cult drama will star The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, Dan Levy, and Blackpink’s Jennie Kim as members in a cult who are in a complex relationship with a rising pop star. Between “The Idol” and his unnamed movie, prepare to have The Weeknd’s face all over your screens.
