Golden Globes critic Brendan Fraser calls them pointless “hood ornaments.”

Despite being nominated for best actor for his portrayal of obese teacher Charlie in The Whale, Austin Butler won the award for Elvis. The 54-year-old actor chose not to attend this year’s Globe Awards because he felt the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had dismissed his allegations of sexual misconduct by the organization’s former president Philip Berk.

On his SiriusXM show on Tuesday, he said to Howard Stern: “I found myself wondering, ‘Is this a cynical nomination?'”

“Given my history with them and the fact that I haven’t yet seen the fruits of their reformation, I couldn’t really tell. To be honest, we are all still waiting for that.

“It doesn’t matter whether you get it or not. What matters is that I wouldn’t care about it.

“I’m not interested. I didn’t request to be taken into account; it was assumed. I’m aware that many people would be upset by that for a variety of reasons, but they needed me, I didn’t need them.

“Because it wouldn’t have any significance for me. I need a place to put that hood ornament. What am I going to do with that?

Brendan claimed in 2018 that Philip had touched him inappropriately during a Beverly Hills lunch in 2003; Philip denied this and called Brendan’s claim a “total fabrication.”

The actor believes Hollywood has blacklisted him as a result.

Regarding his accusation, Brendan continued, “It’s my fight, nobody else’s. I’m not dependent on everyone supporting me.

When Howard, 69, questioned Brendan about whether he believed other actors should have joined him in their boycott of the Globes, Brendan responded, “Maybe. But for whoever that would be, it would be a leap of faith. It would be a calculated risk, and the cynical perspective of everything could easily trivialize it.

After 44 years and eight terms as president, Philip, 88, was expelled from the HFPA in April 2021 after he sent members an email calling Black Lives Matter a “racist hate movement.”
