Chris Redd, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, has been released from the hospital after being attacked by a stranger as he arrived at a club in New York City on Wednesday night.
Someone approached the 37-year-old Missouri native as he exited his car outside the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village, where he was scheduled to perform, around 9:40 p.m.
According to TMZ, a man dressed as a security guard approached Chris, punched him in the face, and grabbed his pricey Greg Yuna chain. The assailant had fled by the time police arrived on the scene.
Chris, who suffered injuries including a deep cut to the nose, was able to retrieve the chain, which had fallen to the ground during the incident, according to the outlet.
The actor also co-starred in the sitcom Kenan with SNL castmate Kenan Thompson, which was canceled in May after two seasons.
In September, Chris announced that he would not be returning to the late-night comedy sketch show this season. “Being a part of SNL has been an incredible experience,” he said at the time. “I walked into 30 Rock five years ago knowing that this was an incredible opportunity for growth.”
He’ll be releasing an hour-long comedy special titled Why Am I Like This? on HBO MAX. Thursday, November 3rd Team Coco, Conan O’Brien’s production company, is in charge of the show’s production.
