Getting a passport, requesting a visa, and packing your luggage should be all that’s required to go on a trip, right? We all would prefer it to be simpler than that, but it only gets worse! Planning is necessary for deciding where you will sleep, what you will eat, how you will interact with the locals, and—most importantly—how you will keep yourself safe. Every community has a different level of security, but some have higher levels than others, which is concerning.
1.Kingston, Jamaica
One location where you can travel on a tight budget and still enjoy yourself is Kingston, Jamaica. You won’t run out of things to do, from the museums and tropical rain forests to the lovely natural harbors. Famous reggae musicians including Buju Banton, Beenie Man, and the great Bob Marley were all born in the city. You might be singing a different tune, though, when you consider Kingston’s crime rate.
According to statistics, the nation, with Kingston at its center, experiences roughly 49.4 killings for every 100,000 residents. This area has a variety of security issues, including drug trafficking, gang violence, and small-time thievery. It is safe to assume that safety is not guaranteed in Kingston, Jamaica, if you intend to visit or learn more about the area.
2.Nairobi, Kenya
One of the few cities with a national park right in the middle is Nairobi, Kenya. The city appears to be ideal for tourists, with nearby camping areas, natural forests for hiking, and museums. However, some of the locals should be avoided as they have a tendency to “smell” strangers and lure them into traps in order to make a killing (sometimes literally). In addition, the city has had terrorist attacks that have targeted prestigious institutions and government buildings. You might not be protected from this by walking in public because terrorists frequently target these areas.
3.Tijuana, Mexico
If you take a quick trip to Tijuana, Mexico, you will adore it. Also, the location is ideal for a day excursion from San Diego. Here, you may watch Lucha Libre, visit the Catedral de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, take photos at the Monumental Arch of the city, and learn about the native culture at Centro Cultural Tijuana. Regrettably, if not for its security concerns, Tijuana would be an ideal tourist destination. Here, there were more than 138 murders per 100,000 inhabitants in just 2022!The city is filled with con artists, with neighborhoods harboring gangs and cartels. Authorities have also identified the region as a hub for smuggling drugs into the United States. Visiting Tijuana means you can end up in the crossfire, either from the cartels or the authorities. Cases of human trafficking have also been reported in this region; you don’t want to be kidnapped while on a trip that was supposed to let you nap like a kid. The trick here is to avoid hotspots and minimize walking at night or in areas with little population.
